THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Tourism Minister, Mr P. Sankaran, who held the health portfolio till the latest Cabinet reshuffle came into effect, has expressed himself in favour of granting autonomy to all existing medical colleges in the State.
Speaking at a function at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences (SCTIMST) here where he inaugurated the dedicated paediatric cardiac surgery wing on Monday, Mr Sankaran said autonomous medical colleges hospitals could perform well and produce better results.
The new paediatric cardiac surgery wing comprises two operation theatres with a 9-bedded ICU unit and congenital heart surgery ward. The wing is also equipped to have an ECO cardiography system and incubator. Among those who spoke on the occasion were Prof K. Mohandas, Director, SCTIMST, Dr K. Rajmohan, Superintendent, Sri Avittam Tirunal Hospital, Prof J.M. Tharakan, Head, Cardiology, and Prof Ram Narayan, Medical Superintendent, SCTIMST.
