Alliances & Joint Ventures Industry & Economy - Social Welfare Education in animation tech Dr Reddy's LABS ties up with Color Chips Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Nov. 26 WITH the intention of exploiting the job potential in the animation industry, Livelihood Advancement Business School (LABS), the social responsibility arm of Dr Reddy's Laboratories, has joined hands with animation major Color Chips India. Color Chips-LABS Animation Academy, the joint initiative, would provide short-term training to underprivileged youth in the field of animation. It proposes to train at least 2,000 students by 2005. Of these, Color Chips plans to absorb nearly 50 per cent. The Chief Executive Officer of Dr Reddy's, Mr K. Satish Reddy, and the Chairman and Managing Director of Color Chips, Mr Sudish S. Rambhotla, singed a memorandum of understanding to this effect here on recently. At present, LABS is engaged in bridging the divide between those who have access to opportunities and those who are increasingly being marginalised from jobs in the new economy. It offers job-oriented training to youth who cannot afford school education and prepares them for entry-level jobs in the emerging industry sectors. Addressing newspersons thereafter, Mr Rambhotla said the global digital animation industry was estimated to grow to a whopping $70 billion by 2005 from $25 billion at present. "There is lack of talented manpower in our country. Thus, the duty of organised and institutionalised training for manpower falls on the industry itself." According to him, the animation field presents tremendous potential for youth employment. The ever-increasing demand in this sector, both nationally and internationally, would fetch them jobs in this sunshine industry. Stating that Color Chips would conduct a mid-course evaluation to see where the students' basic talents lie, he said the minimum salary that a trainee could expect could be anywhere between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 per month. Mr Satish Reddy said LABS had conducted a detailed market survey before entering into a pact with Color Chips to study the potential for youth employment in the animation segment. At present, LABS has its network in 17 centres across the country and plans to expand the network to 50 centres by the next year-end.
