AP tax incentive to aluminium cos

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Nov. 12

THE Andhra Pradesh Government had recently issued an order allowing industries to set off tax paid on the purchase of aluminium raw materials from the tax payable on the sale of finished products.

Disclosing this to presspersons here on Wednesday, the President of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Industries (FAPI), Mr B.V. Rama Rao, however, said that the full benefits of the relief could not be availed if the raw materials were brought from outside the State.

Hence, he wanted the State Government to prevail upon the National Aluminium Corporation to set up its godown here and start selling the raw material directly to the industries.

Mr Rao also urged the Union Government and the Reserve Bank of India to waive the accumulated interest on loans taken by sick small-scale industries (SSIs) in the State.

Though the State Government had waived sales tax and power bill dues, only 44 out of the 40,000 sick SSIs had utilised this opportunity to settle their cases. The poor response was because they have huge accumulated interest.
