The Hindu Business Line : `Kerala Govt's last-ditch effort to save FACT'

THE Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, has said that the State Government would go the full distance to ensure that the Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd (FACT) was retained in the public sector.

Speaking to newspersons on his return from New Delhi, where he had a meeting with the Prime Minister, followed by the Chairman and board members of FACT, Mr Antony said the Centre had agreed to make certain concessions with respect to FACT. On its part, the State Government also was willing to make matching concessions to FACT. The Chief Minister hoped to convene a meeting of all concerned parties and make a fresh proposal to the Centre so that the fertiliser major is retained in the public sector.

He said that he also held talks with the Chairman and Managing Director of the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd where it was decided to expedite the work on expansion of capacity at the Kayamkulam plant to 2300 MW.
