Tata Motors sales up 49.8 pc in Sept

TATA Motors reported a 49.8 per cent increase in its total vehicle sales, including exports, at 28,302 units during the month of September 2003.

For the six-month period ending September, the company's sales volumes increased by 44.5 per cent to 1,38,522 vehicles (95,876 in the year-ago period).

The company recorded a 61.1 per cent increase in sales of commercial vehicles in September 2003 at 15,154 units. Total commercial vehicle sales for the first half period was higher at 68,467 vehicles as compared to 48,219 vehicles in the year-ago period.

During the first half period, medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales grew by 37.9 per cent to 44,378 units and light commercial vehicle sales stood at 24,089, higher by 50 per cent from the year-ago period.

Passenger car sales grew by 40.5 per cent in September 2003 to 13,006 vehicles while for the first half period sales increased by 44 per cent to 66,977 vehicles.

In the Indica segment, the company sold 7,539 cars in September and 39,903 in the six-month period. In the Indigo segment, Tata Motors sold 2,469 cars during September and 13,266 cars in the six-month period.
