New Delhi , Sept. 15

THE authorities of Sharjah hope to sell at least 5,000 holiday packages in India during the next six months, senior Government officials said here today.

Addressing a press conference here to launch the `Special Sharjah holiday packages' in conjunction with Indian Airlines, the General Manager, Sharjah Airport Travel Agency, Mr Hossam Talaat, said the packages will be rolled out in a two-phase manner in the country.

"India is the first country in Asia where such a package is being launched by us. We are working on a two-phased strategy for the packages. During the first phase, the major focus for these packages will be on five cities, including Hyderabad, Kochi, Bangalore and Delhi. If the first phase is successful, we will look at Chennai and Kolkata also," Mr Talaat said.

The package includes not only return airfare but also accommodation in three, four or five-star hotels as also in apartments. Sightseeing and breakfast have also been included in the price. The packages range from two to four nights. The packages are to be made available only for passengers who fly with IA which offers as many as 26 weekly flights from 13 cities including Chennai, Kochi, Tiruchi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi.

The packages are detailed on IA's dedicated holiday packages Web site (www.indianairlinespackages.com) . Apart from all relevant details about the packages, the Web site also has visa application forms that can be downloaded.

The prices of the packages range from Rs 14,770 at the lowest level to Rs 23,495 at the highest level for a two-night stay in Sharjah. The packages are to be available till the end of March next year.
