CHENNAI, July 3

AS the indefinite strike by the Tamil Nadu Government employees and teachers entered the second day on Thursday, the Federation of JACTTEO-GEO-COTA-GEO, which is spearheading the strike, has decided to intensify the agitation, according to a press release from the federation.

The strike is to push for various benefits including retirement benefits and service conditions, which the Government has curtailed, according to the federation.

On the second day today, normalcy has been affected in Government offices including the Secretariat, and schools and colleges with majority of the staff participating in the strike. Further, it has urged the employees to organise demonstrations at district headquarters on Monday and Tuesday, the release said.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Government has announced that those participating in the strike or inciting the strike will have to face action under the Essential Services Maintenance Act, including dismissal from service. It would also recruit new staff from those registered with the employment agencies.
