Escotel cuts rates

KOCHI, May 22

ESCOTEL Mobile Communications Ltd (Escotel) has announced reduced local, STD and ISD tariffs. Mr V.G. Somasekhar, Chief Operating Officer, Escotel (Kerala), said that the new rates were free of DoT charges, "which means the customer has to pay just the call charges only."

The pulse rate has been reduced to 30 seconds from one-minute pulse earlier. Together, these revisions help the customer save as much as 66 per cent on Let's Talk pre-paid and up to 80 per cent on Escotel post-paid tariff, he said.

As per the new rates on Let's Talk prepaid, a call made to any phone in Kerala now costs just Rs 1.20 for 30 seconds. Calls to any phone within India cost just Rs 1.80 and outside India Rs 9 for a 30-second call. On Escotel post-paid, a new "entry" plan has been announced with tariff similar to that of pre-paid. With a monthly rental of just Rs 249, the new plan is ideal for customers wishing to switch from pre-paid to post-paid, he said.

In addition, rates have also been slashed on Swagatham and Success plans. On Swagatham plan, rates on a 30-second pulse vary from 50 paise for mobile to mobile calls to Re 1 for mobile to landline/WLL calls within Kerala. The rates of Success plan are 20 paise for mobile to mobile calls and 60 paise for mobile to landline/WLL calls within Keala, he said.

On both the plans, mobile to mobile calls outside Keala cost Re 1 per 30 seconds. Calls to fixed/WLL phones outside Kerala are charged at Rs 1.50 for distances less than 200 km and Rs 1.80 for 200 km and above. As in pre-paid, ISD calls on post-paid also cost Rs 9 per 30 seconds, he added.
