THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 22

COMPUTER education company, NIIT, has entered into a tie-up with the Karnataka State Open University and the New Delhi-based Virtual Education Trust.

Under the partnership, which is being launched in Kerala this week, NIIT students are offered lateral entry into the B.Sc. and M.Sc. - information technology (IT) course of the Open University. Company officials disclosed this on the sidelines of a `NIIT Career Clinic' being conducted in the city.

According to the officials, the partnership makes it possible for students who have completed one year of the GNIIT course to directly enter the second year of the Karnataka Open University's B.Sc. IT programme. Similarly, NIIT students who meet certain criteria can directly enter the second year of the university's M.Sc. IT course, the officials added.

This partnership will begin immediately and will be fully functional by July this year, the officials said.

Earlier, while inaugurating the `career clinic' Mr G. Vijaya Raghavan, former CEO of the Technopark and currently President, Venture Management Associates, pointed out that such programmes would enable students to master their core subjects while simultaneously acquiring a strong foundation in information technology.

The two-day `career clinic' will expose students to the various programmes NIIT offers. Besides, students can undergo psychometric testing, as part of the clinic, said company officials.
