Agilent grant for Madurai engg college

A Correspondent

MADURAI, April 18

AGILENT Technologies, a US-based company offering test and measurement solutions to the communications, electronics and life science markets, has selected Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) for assistance under its University Philanthropic Equipment Grants Program.

The college is the only institution to be selected from India and one of the three from Asia and one among 22 institutions across the world.

The assistance - duty-free donation of equipments worth Rs 60 lakh - is to set up a modern communications laboratory to enable the college to offer new advanced communication courses and to help students conduct advanced research and experiments.

This would help to meet the increase in demand for system engineers with versatility in both hardware and software in the market.

Mr Kewal Khanna, President, Agilent Technologies, told newspersons that Agilent had a long-standing tradition of supporting higher education through various education and grant programs.

Last year, it gave away $11 million in equipment and cash. The current program recognises professional institutes worldwide for demonstrating innovative teaching methods and formulation of new curricula in areas of engineering technologies, along with showcasing inter and multi-disciplinary learning environments.

TCE has come through its rigorous selection process based on quality and commitment. The laboratory would help the college emerge as a centre of excellence for advanced engineering education, equipping future engineers with the required bandwidth to face the challenges of competition, he added.
