Roadways Kolkata vehicles told to conform to Bharat II norms Our Legal Correspondent
KOLKATA, April 3 A DIVISION Bench of Calcutta High Court comprising the Chief Justice and Justice Mr J.K. Biswas today directed the State Government to ensure that all types of vehicles plying within Kolkata metropolis convert to Bharat Stage II standards. These vehicles include private, commercial, Government, semi Government, public goods carriers, two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws. The conversion should be completed within one year. The Court passed the order following a writ petition filed in environment and pollution control matter. The Court also directed the State Government to take steps so that the order is strictly complied with for the protection of environment. The Court directed the oil supplying agencies to ensure adequate supply of the concentrated natural gas conforming to Bharat Stage II norms by establishing sufficient number of outlets. Any violation of the order must evoke penal action.
