Arts & Crafts Last Supper as mural G.K. Nair
KOCHI, Jan. 29 THE Last Supper of Jesus Christ is being portrayed as a traditional mural using natural paints and conventional brushes by the Mural Painting division of the State-owned Vastu Vidya Gurukulam at Aranmula in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district. The 6ftx4ft painting is in the finishing stages and would be handed over to the Vatican Museum in March, P.N. Suresh, Executive Director of the gurukulam, told Business Line. "This might be the first of its kind to be presented to the Vatican," he said. The gurukulam is also working on setting up a mural art gallery at the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti based on the 12 important events in the life of Mahatma Gandhi, at Rajghat. According to him, there are no portraits of the Mahatma drawn in natural paint mixes under mural art. Similarly, the gurukulam is in the process of creating a mural art gallery at the Mannam Samadhi Mandapam at Perunna in the Kottayam district portraying the life history of Mannath Padmanabhan, the founder of the Nair Service Society in Kerala. The gurukulam has a mural art gallery on the banks of the Pamba.
