Amadeus unveils e-learning site for agents

Ashwini Phadnis

NEW DELHI, Dec. 29

AMADEUS, the global distribution and travel industry technology provider, has launched `Learning City', an interactive online learning Web site providing interactive courses and online documentation for travel agents.

"Learning city is an e-learning platform for travel agents and has been designed to make their life as simple as possible. The launch will help us go into areas where we have not been earlier and see a geographical expansion of our business,'' the Managing Director, Amadeus India Sub-continent, Mr Ankur Bhatia, told Business Line.

A visitor to `Learning City' (http://learningcity.amadeus.net) will be able to get access to information on airfares, hotels, car rentals and even insurance being offered. The site follows a point and click system which makes it easier for the user to get information.

Learning City offers several courses which provide information that a travel agent will be able to use. Among the courses available is `A day in the life of a travel agent,' which helps a newcomer to familiarise with the basic Amadeus functionality required to become operational in a travel agency. Besides, there is also `Amadeus system mini lessons,' which offer 18 mini lessons covering the basic features of the Amadeus system. Travel agents can also learn about the basic aspects of electronic ticketing and the associated rules and conditions at `Electronic ticketing basics'. Further, `fare basics' teaches a travel agent how to view fares in Amadeus, and various supporting functionalities that are useful with fares.

While there are no examinations to test how well you are doing when you are using Learning City, the course contains exercises so that a user can test his knowledge on a specific topic. Company officials maintained that the new launch provided a user the flexibility of going through the entire material available at `Learning City' at their own pace.

"The travel agents can set their own pace for completing the course. They do not need to miss office work to catch up with what is available at Learning City. They can always go to the site either after or before office hours," Amadeus officials said.

The launch of `Learning City' was likely to result in additional revenue generation from commissions alone of about Rs 50 crore, Mr Bhatia said.
