New Products & Services Corporate - Outlook Madura sees robust growth for suits Our Bureau

CHENNAI, Oct. 21 THE readymade suits segment is expected to grow at a rate of 30 per cent, according to Mr Vasanth Kumar, Vice-President, Marketing, Madura Garments. Speaking at a launch conference here for Madura's new range of shirts, trousers and suits, Mr Kumar said that at present the total number of suits sold are around five million. Of this, 90 per cent is tailormade. Almost 50 per cent of the suits are purchased for weddings and 30 per cent by the corporate sector. The company has recently entered the suits segment and has invested Rs 20 crore in a factory in Bangalore, he added. Apart from various designs and collections that Madura has launched under its brands such as Peter England and Louis Philippe, it has launched a collection under the Van Heusen brand called Worldwear, which is a range of shirts, trousers and ties that complement its range of suits and jackets. The shirts are priced at Rs 1,295, the trousers are available from Rs 1,495 while suits and jackets are priced from Rs 4,995. Madura Garments plans 12 of its one-stop shops, Planet Fashion, all over the country in a year's time. It currently has one such store in Bangalore and has opened one more in Chennai. Madura, which expects an 8-10 per cent growth in the current year, will spend 8-9 per cent of its turnover on advertising in the current year.
