Omar Abdullah's defeat

Mr Omar Abdullah, President of National Conference, had to eat humble pie in the recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The main reason for the defeat was that Mr Farooq Abdullah had projected his son as his sole political heir.

Also, the fact that the senior Abdullah will no longer be available to lead them, made voters look for an alternative choice. The people of the State may have felt that the responsibility of ruling a troubled state is too heavy a burden on the young shoulders of Mr Omar Abdullah. Another wrong move was the severing of ties with the NDA, which affected both the National Conference and the BJP.
