Infrastructure Kerala PWD to showcase projects worth Rs 6,000 crore Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Oct. 17 THE State Public Works Department has rustled up project proposals estimated to require Rs 6,000 crore in private investments for being showcased at the forthcoming Global Investors' Meet (GIM) in Kochi. Announcing this, the Public Works Minister, Dr M.K. Muneer, said that the projects included the Express Highway connecting Kasaragod in the north and Thiruvananthapuram in the south, the Vadakkancherry-Pollachi, Kottayam-Kumarakom and Ponnani-Venkulam roads. The World Bank-aided Rs 191-crore project involving maintenance and upgradation of a string of other road systems was fast progressing, he added. The Bank had also sanctioned Rs 20 crore for computerisation of PWD works in the State. At least 272 new projects, including both bridges and roads involving a total cost of Rs 180 crore, are under various stages of implementation in the State.The ongoing spell of rain had caused an estimated Rs 18 crore worth of damage to State roads and National Highways. Nine PWD rest houses had been selected for private participation under a novel `Renovate, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (ROMT)' basis. The proposal for the same would be shortly placed before the Cabinet for clearance, the Minister added.
