Education Sarabhai space centre contests for students Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Sept 18 THE Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) will be organising all-Kerala essay, poster and collage competitions for high school students to coincide with the World Space Week 2002 celebrations scheduled to be held for a week from October 4. Announcing this, a VSSC spokesman said that the theme of the celebrations for this year would be `Space and Daily Life'. It would also be the theme for the essay, poster and collage competitions. Participants are allowed to take help from parents and teachers in collecting the resource material. But the final product - essay, poster or collage - must be prepared by the students themselves. A certificate from the head of the institution to this effect should accompany each entry, absence of which will disqualify the entry. The contest is open to all high school and Plus Two students from any part of Kerala. Essays not exceeding 2,000 words may be prepared in English or Malayalam. Posters should be done in watercolour or poster colour on white art paper or card. The collage should be prepared in thick paper or card. All entries should bear a covering letter with the name of the participant, age, school, class and the residential address with contact telephone numbers and respective STD codes. Entries should be sent by post and reach the Space Week Office, PPEG, VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram latest by September 25. Prizes for the selected entries will be distributed at the valedictory function to be held at VSSC on October 10. There will be a special award, called the GSLV Award, for the best essay from the high school stream.
