Outlook HP bullish on network storage market Our Bureau
KOLKATA, Sept. 18 HEWLETT-PACKARD India Pvt Ltd (HP) hopes to register an impressive increase in its share of the domestic network storage solutions (NSS) business ``in the next one year and beyond''. The company's growth in the storage business would be facilitated by its offerings in the NSS business in the range of around 75 terabytes a segment that is estimated to grow in the years ahead. Stating this during an interface with newspersons here, Mr Avijit Basu, Marketing Manager of HP's Enterprise Systems Group, said the company had identified specific industry segments which would be targeted with a view to facilitating the anticipated rate of growth in the NSS business. These include telecommunications, software, petroleum, extended manufacturing and financial institutions and banking. At present, the HP-Compaq combine has a 62.5 per cent share of the domestic disc storage business even as the new HP has a 47.5 per cent marketshare in tape storage devices. Besides consolidating and augmenting its channel network across the country with special emphasis on eastern India HP was open to the idea of opening more proof of concept centres or centres of excellence that exist in other parts of India. At present, HP has a Financial Institution Expertise Centre in Mumbai and another smaller version of the same in Bangalore. The idea in the long term was to have more such proof of concept centres elsewhere in the country.
