Software `Over-dependence on process has stifled software innovation' Our Bureau
BANGALORE, Sept.1 OVER dependence on process and not research has stifled innovation in software engineering, according to academicians and industry experts participating in a panel discussion on `Software engineering innovation: How can India be the leader?' organised by Infosys Technologies. The panellists debated topics including how far had India really come in the IT, at what level of maturity was the industry currently at, definition of IT, how India could improve the various components and what should the software industry, academia and research do to help India take the lead in providing innovative solutions to these problems, said a Infosys press release. The panellists included Prof. S. Sadagopan, Director, IIIT Bangalore; Prof. Bimal Roy, Prof-in-charge, (Applied Statistical Unit), Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata; Prof. Pankaj Jalote, Professor and Head, Computer Science Department, IIT- Kanpur; Dr A L Rao, President, Telecom and Internet Working Solutions, Wipro Technologies Ltd; Mr Deependra Moitra, General Manager, (Engineering), Lucent Technologies Ltd and Member IEEE Software Editorial Board; Mr Satyendra Kumar, Vice-President, Head Quality and Productivity, Infosys Technologies Ltd. In his keynote address, Dr Raja Ramanna, Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies and Member of the Rajya Sabha, gave his insights into the nature of Quantum Computers and its future.
