Announcements ASC Enterprises applies for DTH licence Our Bureau
BANGALORE, June 27 ESSEL Group owned ASC Enterprises Ltd (ASCEL) has applied for a DTH licence. ASCEL's Agrani Satellite Services Ltd is the first Indian private communications and broadcasting satellite system. ASCEL now remains the only player in the fray for DTH (direct-to-home broadcasting) licence after the relevant policy was changed. Confirming the move, ASCEL spokesperson, Mr Ashish Kaul, told Business Line, "This is a natural extension of our plan. The satellite has a powerful Ku band component and we are converting a portion of it into DTH platform.'' Ten of the 14 Ku band transponders are to be used for DTH. The Agrani satellite project was approved by the Centre in tune with the liberalised Satcom Policy of May 2000.
