Income Tax AP: Gold card for `honest' tax payers Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, June 20 HONEST tax payers in Andhra Pradesh can look forward to some small consolation. Very soon, they will be given a `gold card', which would allow them an expeditious passage at all the check posts. In another incentive to simplify the procedure of tax payment, filing of returns and payment of taxes through e-seva centres are to be encouraged. These points emerged at a review meeting of the performance of the Commercial Taxes and Excise Department in the State by the Chief Minister on Wednesday. The Commissioner of Commercial Taxes informed that the Department achieved 101.50 per cent of the revenue target during May. On the Central tax collections, the State recorded a negative growth rate of 2.13 per cent during May. The Chief Minister, Mr Chandrababu Naidu, suggested a commodity-wise comparison with Central excise and analysis of various reasons for deviations in growth rates. On the issue of promoting the issue of sale bills by dealers conducting test purchase operations, out of the 3,537 cases inspected, in 1,724 cases sale bills were not issued. Penalties have been collected to the tune of Rs 37 lakh. On the excise front, the Chief Minister instructed officials to crack down on the manufacturers of illicit liquor, adulterated toddy and ganja cultivators. The cases where chloral hydrate is found in any drink including toddy should be dealt with sternly as it is harmful to consumers. Mr Naidu instructed the department to formulate insurance scheme for toddy tappers and clear all pending cases of ex-gratia to toddy tappers where amount is to be paid. The Excise Department officials have detected 18,580 cases during April-May this year, seizing 557 vehicles and arresting 8,867 persons.
