"This growth was led by a substantial 102 per cent increase in the sale of medium and heavy commercial vehicles. Sales of light commercial vehicles at 2,245 units showed a 49 per cent growth over May 2001," an official statement said. The company sold 2,749 medium and heavy commercial vehicles and 1,494 light commercial vehicles in May 2001. For the first two months of 2002-2003, total sales were up by 8.6 per cent to 22,109 units, including a 59 per cent rise in cumulative commercial vehicles sales at 13,673 units. The passenger vehicle business (including cars and utility vehicles) registered total sales of 5,223 units in May 2002, amidst a decline in industry sales by 12.4 per cent.
