Cement Corporate - Performance Cement sector output crosses 100-mt mark Our Bureau
MUMBAI, May 3 LARGE cement plants in the country together produced 102.4 million tonnes of cement in 2001-2002, which is 9.39 per cent higher than the previous financial year (93.61 mt). Production during March 2002 crossed the 10-million tonne mark, the highest ever in a month, according to the Cement Manufacturers' Association of India. Despatches during the year ended March 2002 increased by 9.62 per cent from 93.44 mt to 102.43 mt. Consumption grew by 9.7 per cent during the same year. The previous year had seen a decline of 2 per cent in consumption. Capacity utilisation during the year was 79 per cent (82 per cent).
ACC sales up 29% in April
Associated Cement Companies Ltd, the country's second-biggest cement maker by capacity, said sales in April increased 29 per cent from the year-earlier month. Cement sales increased to 1.246 million tonnes from 9,62,000 tonnes. Production rose 25 per cent to 1.207 million tonnes from 9,66,000 tonnes.
Grasim shipments up 26%
The country's third-largest cement maker, Grasim Industries, said on Friday its cement shipments in April rose 25.72 per cent from a year earlier to 1.034 million tonnes. The company said the shipments include those of its subsidiary - Shree Digvijay Cement Company Ltd. It said cement production in April rose 25 per cent from a year earlier to 1.042 million tonnes.
Gujarat Ambuja sales rise 3%
Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd, the country's fourth-biggest cement maker by capacity, said April sales rose 3 per cent from the year-earlier month. Sales increased to 626,000 tonnes in April from 610,000 tonnes the year before. Production rose 3 per cent to 622,000 tonnes from 605,000 tonnes in the same month a year ago. The company said sales in the ten months ended April 30 rose 19 per cent to 5.911 million tonnes from 4.983 million tonnes. Production in the period rose 19 per cent to 5.907 million tonnes from 4.982 million tonnes.
