Public Sector Banks SBI installs 1,017 ATMs Our Bureau
MUMBAI, April 12 STATE Bank of India (SBI) has put in place 1,017 ATMs, the largest number of installed ATMs by any single bank in the country, the bank said in a press release. The bank had installed 764 ATMs in one year while in the last five weeks 541 ATMs were installed across the country. With these ATMs in place, the bank aimed to provide ATM facilities where it was convenient for the customer to operate, the release added. SBI started implementing its ATM networking project in May 2001 and has networked 541 ATMs. The bank has procured Compaq's Tandem Switch and ACI's Base 24 software. Networked ATMs are now available in 60 centres. Meanwhile, a draft of Rs 11.64 crore was presented to the Finance Minister, Mr Yashwant Sinha, by Mr Janki Ballabh, Chairman of SBI, and Mr Shantha Raju, General Secretary, All India State Bank Officer's Federation for the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
