The Hindu Business Line : Dabhol officials detained by angry workers

THREE officials of the Dabhol Power Company (DPC) were said to have been detained by over 170 angry workers in the plant premises from March 30 to April 2. The officials were not allowed to leave the premises until IDBI officials and the Mumbai High Court Receiver arrived on the scene on Tuesday.

According to Mr Pravin Balgude, a member of the Enron Virodhi Andolan, workers and security officers working in the plant stopped Mr Arvind Dabur, DPC's Manager (Personnel), and Security in-charge Mr Dogra on March 30. The two were reportedly abandoning the plant and loading equipment onto trucks to leave the premises along with another official.

Most of the workers and security guards have lost their land to the project and are yet to receive compensation or are waiting for the promised jobs in DPC. Mr Dabur was said to have promised the workers that he would not leave without setting up a meeting with the IDBI officials who were to accompany the High Court Receiver for seizing the plant.

But when he refused to stay citing that his contract with DPC had expired, angry workers refused to let him go.

The workers have decided to file a suit against DPC for not providing jobs or compensation for their land.
