Software Corporate - New Projects L&T eyeing IT ventures in Gulf region Vimala Vasan
ABU DHABI, Feb. 4 LARSEN and Toubro is foraying into the information technology field in West Asian and has recently opened an office at the Hamriyah Free Zone in Sharjah that will serve as a hub storage area for its operations in the Gulf. Mr K. A. Shyam Sundar, Resident Manager, L&T, Abu Dhabi, told Business Line that the Indian major was looking to expanding its operations from the power sector where it had undertaken major projects to the information technology and civil construction areas in a bid to widen its presence in the region. The company is showcasing its new range of products and services at the Middle East Electricity 2002 expo, which opened on Sunday in Dubai. Mr Sundar said L&T was in serious discussions with the UAE officials regarding its expertise in software. "We have received encouraging response for IT projects in fields such as building and hospital management, fire management, cable management etc. We have also made representations in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain in this connection,'' he said.
