Understanding managerial roles: Mr Krishnamoorthy addressing MBA students of the Thirumalai Engineering College at a Business Line Club event sponsored by Tata Photon.

One of the most challenging projects would be to understand the human mind. If one can make sense of the ways of the human mind, it would put an end to the organisational problems we face today.

According to Mr S. Krishnamoorthy, Consultant, Alphabetics Inc., an individual would himself be the greatest organisation.

When the concept of organisational behaviour is intelligently applied, goals can be attained easily.

Mr Krishnamoorthy was addressing MBA students of the Thirumalai Engineering College at a Business Line Club event sponsored by Tata Photon.

Providing an answer to another tricky question: Who are managers? he said they were individuals who achieved their goals through other people.

He stressed on the four management functions, namely, planning, controlling, organising and leading, and how important it is for the manager to tackle each one meticulously.

He threw light on the managerial roles — interpersonal, informational and decisional. A manager is one who can manage technical, human and conceptual skills.

With the help of a pie diagram, he clearly explained the allocation of activities by time for average, successful and effective managers.

Further, he said, dependent and independent variables are key factors of organisational behaviour.

Productivity, effectiveness, efficiency, absenteeism, turnover, organisational citizenship and job satisfaction are all dependent variables; there are only three independent variables, namely, the individual level variable, the group level variable and the organisation system level variable.

Finally, he spoke about the challenges and opportunity of organisational behaviour.

Also present on the occasion were Mr N.R. Swaminathan, Principal, and Mr V. Gugaramanan, Director, MBA.
