Kochi to host 7-day Adivasi mela

Kochi, Jan. 7

A seven-day Adivasi mela will be held here at Rajendra Maidan Kochi from Sunday (January 9) in connection with the ongoing Grand Kerala Shopping Festival. The Mela, being organised in association with Cochin Shipyard Ltd, is aimed at giving an impetus to tribal people and familiarise their culture. As part of the Mela, an exhibition of traditional handicrafts, handloom and cultural programmes of Dalits and backward classes had been organised. The main attraction of the seven-day mela will be an exhibition of traditional dresses of the tribal people. The weapons used by them, house-hold equipment, clothes, handicraft items, ornaments and dresses had been included. A painting exhibition and a get-together of tribal painters are some other attractions. Visitors will get an opportunity to experience the traditional Ayurvedic treatment methods. – Our Bureau
