Cabinet nod for sugar exports

The Union Cabinet on Monday gave its nod for sugar exports to those advance licence holders, who have pending export obligations. The sugar stock now is more than 70 lakh tonnes, which is 24 lt more than the buffer requirement. The Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, told reporters that this decision would be viewed within a month's time.

The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Electricity Bill for more effective control of theft of electricity. It also gave approval for the introduction of the Indian Maritime University Bill 2006 for formation of Indian Maritime University with headquarters at Chennai.
