TN foodgrains merchants' plea

The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has urged the State Governmentto grant exemption from tax for items of daily use at home.Welcoming the Value Added Tax and the announcement of concessions along with that, the association sought exemption for peas flour and fried peas used more by the lower strata of the society.

Taking into account the increasing use of wheat by the public on health grounds, exemption from tax must be accorded for wheat and associated products, it said.
