Shipping China-US logistics tie-up
China and the US propose to strengthen cooperation in the field of logistics for mutual benefit. Xinhua New Agency quoted the Chairman of the China Communications and Transportation Association as saying that in spite of the sharp rise in the Sino-American trade since China joined the World Trade Organisation, the bilateral cooperation in the field of logistics has not kept up with the rapid increase in trade. This is presumably because China's logistics industry may not be as developed as that in the US and, therefore, in need of American know-how in management, training and technology. In return, China will provide American business with an opportunity to access its vast and fast growing market. The report suggests that the officials from both sides have agreed to hold an exhibition in Beijing next July as a step towards identifying the areas of mutual cooperation. The objective is to create a win-win situation for both sides, the Xinhua report observed.
