Oilseeds & Edible Oil Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports Oilseeds body made nodal export agency Gargi Shah
Mumbai , Dec. 8 The Indian Oilseeds & Produce Exporters Association (IOPEA) has been granted recognition as an Export Promotion Council. This is in response to an application made by the association two years ago. The EPC will be the nodal agency for export of oilseeds and products. The Ministry of Commerce has given EPC status to IOPEA with effect from November 13, according to Mr Sanjiv Sawla, Chairman, IOPEA.
Data on oilseeds
The primary focus of the Council would be to compile data on oilseeds, he said. Today, there was no such data available on the northern States. All exports would now be required to be registered with the Council, said Mr Sawla. The Council would devise a strategy to restructure itself to bring within its gamut other bodies carrying on associated activities. It would be entitled to funds from the Ministry for export promotion and other activities such as seed development, research and contract farming and pilot projects. The broad terms of the Council are to carry on promotional activities, including holding of exhibitions and backward integration. The IOPEA was established in 1956.
