`Implementation of CAS on schedule'

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 8

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Friday said that conditional access system (CAS) for Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata would be implemented as per the earlier announced date of December 31. TRAI said that there would be no delay in implementing the system in the notified areas.

TRAI said the Government has already approved 26 multi-system operators (MSOs) for providing cable TV services either directly or through local cable operators. Along with public awareness campaigns run by the MSOs, TRAI has also issued a series of advertisements aimed at educating the cable TV subscribers in matter of tariffs. Nodal officers have also been appointed to coordinate the implementation of CAS.

TRAI cautioned that interested subscribers should not wait till the last moment as that would lead to bunching of applications on December 31. The TRAI statement comes in the wake of reports that there were problems in offering CAS-based cable TV services.
