DTDC tool to track shipments online

Our Bureau,

Bangalore , Dec. 1

DTDC, which has a model based on large franchisees, has deployed centralised enterprise resource planning-based remote server computing system to connect all its branches and franchisees to provide an online service.

Apart from providing critical mailing solutions to the company, the in-house developed system would enable customers to track consignment through Web, mobile, mail and through a call centre.

Investment

Mr Mrinal Chakraborty, General Manager (IT & Services), said the company has invested Rs 5 crore on its computing system and plans to spend an equal amount to cover nationwide converged IP network (data, voice and video) with extensive back-up facility.

With over 1,000 franchisees, DTDC hoped to leverage the computing system along with its centralised data centre in Bangalore to provide value added service.

Growth

Mr Chakraborty said the online system would enable the franchises to manage the data system thus avoiding duplication of entries.

He said this would have a direct impact on DTDC's business growth helping the franchisees handle higher volume of shipments than its current 2.6 lakh per day.

Faster tracking and updation of movement of shipments would help the company improve its cost and service efficiencies.
