Bangalore , Nov. 18 Consumer electronics' company Sanyo will launch the next-generation nickel metal hydride rechargeable battery - Eneloop - in the country soon. The Eneloop battery is part of Sanyo's new corporate campaign, `Think Gaia', which focuses on environment-friendly products and technology. The Sanyo chairperson, Ms Tomoyo Nonaka, told a seminar here that under the Think Gaia (Gaia is the Greek goddess of Earth) programme, the company last year launched the world's first rechargeable battery, Eneloop, which could be used like a dry cell battery as it comes pre-charged. She said as per the vision plan, four major action plans had been initiated. These were related to environment, energy, lifestyle and product circulation to realise zero emission and full recycling and detoxified product cycle. The company was also developing nickel battery for hybrid electric vehicle for Volkswagen. She said the company had within a year of its launch, sold over 10 million Eneloop batteries, which is equivalent to 10 billion dry cell batteries.
