Mumbai , Nov. 16 Tata Technologies has tied up with SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) to offer a certificate course in automotive engineering with emphasis on interior trims of the vehicle, powertrain (gearbox and engine), chassis and styling. The course is divided into two parts. Part one is known as `automotive essentials' - one has to pay $1,000 (Rs 45,000) for the course; this includes $350 as examination fees. It is the beginner's course that revolves around the `I-get-It software'. This software application is about engineering as well as design and product creation process.
Course Details
There are two training options - an online training programme is posted on www.ikstata.com where every student is given a username and password to access the course. The second option is for professionals in the technical field, so that if corporate companies choose this course, then they can opt for an instructor (an official from Tata Technologies) who would conduct the class. One has to secure 70 per cent in part one of the course to go to the next. Part two lays emphasis on certain key aspects of product development. It consists of five domains `body in white' (the skeleton of the car, as it were), `interior trims', `powertrain', `chassis' and `styling'. One can opt for any one of these domains at a cost of $2000 (Rs 90,000) per domain as tuition fees. There is the option for choosing all five domains one after another provided you are willing to pay that extra money! At the end of the course, you get a SAE-accredited certificate. Mr Wishwas Julka, Business Manager - Asia-Pacific, INCAT (the US subsidiary of Tata Technologies) said that the company was keen on tapping the auto industry with corporates showing a keen desire to enrol their staff for the course.
