Azhikkal port work to be expedited

The Kerala Government has initiated steps to speed up the process of land acquisition for the development of Azhikkal port near Kannur.

At a high-level meeting chaired by the Port Minister, Mr M. Vijayakumar here, it was decided to take steps to connect the port with the National Highway and the railway lines as also to undertake a technical survey for the development of the port.

The dredging work to deepen the draft up to four metres to facilitate easy access for ships to the port will be completed within four months. Besides, it was decided to purchase a high-capacity mobile crane immediately to handle cargo at the port.
