Aquaculture Industry & Economy - WTO Shrimp row with US: Centre to press for dispute panel Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 15 The Centre on Wednesday said it would be reiterating its request for establishing a panel by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) at the next meeting of the dispute settlement body on November 21, against the US customs bond directive on the export of frozen and canned warm water shrimp from India. In a statement issued here, the Department of Commerce said the Government had made a request in October 2006 for the WTO panel on the issue of a US customs bond directive on the export of marine products by India. As per WTO rules, the respondent (US) party has a right to delay the establishment of a panel only once and the US would not be able to delay the establishment of the panel now, it said.
