New Delhi , Nov. 13

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Monday signed a memorandum of agreement with the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) that provides for assistance by the latter to the civil aviation sector here in developing and modernising infrastructure in the managerial, operation and technical areas.

The assistance would be on the basis of reimbursement of costs and it includes providing training of civil aviation personnel, inspection and calibration of Indian civil aviation equipment and air navigation facilities, providing resources, logistical support and equipment for air navigational facilities, apart from providing assistance in airport certification.

The MoA is an umbrella agreement and would have many agreements with different agencies such as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, among others.

The agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel.

Jet Air issue

Speaking to newspersons after the ceremony, the Minister said that procedures were being followed for resolving the issue of clearance of Jet Airways to operate to the US.

``If Jet Airways is security cleared in India, why are we unnecessarily dragging our feet.

"Having given clearance to operate in India after due clearance from the Home Ministry, why are we delaying the issue. The issue should be decided one way or the other,'' Mr Patel said.
