Up for adoption

Mohammed Yousuf

WHITE TIGERS in their enclosure at the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. The zoo authorities have introduced an adoption scheme that offers patrons income tax concessions and lifetime free entry to the zoo.

The scheme, first of its kind in the country, aims to attract animal lovers to become patrons for 1,500 odd species of animals in the zoo. They can adopt either an entire enclosure or an individual animal.

Adopting an elephant and a chimpanzee would cost around Rs 50,000, while a big cat can entail a cost of Rs 1 to 2 lakh a year.
