Cement majors' sales grow 10 pc

The cement majors have reported sales growths ranging from eight to 10 per cent year-on-year for October 2006.

ACC Ltd reported an 8.6 per cent increase in sales by volume for October, reporting off-take of 16.4 lakh tonnes in the month, as against 15.1 lakh tonnes last October. Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd said its standalone sales, at 12.5 lakh tonnes, rose six per cent, while group sales (including Ambuja Cement Eastern) were nine per cent higher, at 14.27 lakh tonnes.

The AV Birla group of cement companies, comprising Grasim Industries and UltraTech Cement in the main, reported a 9.97 per cent increase in despatches at 25.4 lakh tonnes. Standalone sales figures from the group were not available.
