AAMT, Prometric launch medical transcription exam

Kolkata , Nov 3

The American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT), a global player in medical transcription (MT), in association with Thomson Prometric, a world major in independent assessment services, today announced a Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) credentialling examination for the newly developed global `Level 1' credential in the international MT space.

According to an AAMT release, the programme is aimed at helping the existing talent pool scale up to meet global standards and quality benchmarks and improve term career prospects by opening up new opportunities.

The two organisations have also announced a special price for India of $150 (down from $275) for AAMT's existing Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) examination.

A CMT certificate is considered a global benchmark in the MT industry, offering large vale to both practising professionals and employers.

Mr Soumitra Roy, Managing Director of Prometric India, said: "We feel that this introduction of global training and quality standards through credentialling exams is a timely initiative, especially when India is on the verge of optimally exploring the growing opportunities in the MT industry."

Dr Peter Preziosi, Executive Director of AAMT, said: "The launch of the programme is an extension of AAMT's commitment to the mission of leading the evolution of medical transcription."

He added that these credentials would help both practitioners and employers clue into value-based criteria that promote the "intrinsic worth medical transcription brings to the healthcare delivery system."

It is felt that lack of a globally recognised programme in the MT domain is hampering the evolution of proper talent and career prospects.
