Chennai , Nov. 3

Satyam Computer Services Ltd has set up a new global development centre in Chennai for Nissan North America. The 50,000-sq.ft. facility on Chennai's information technology highway (the Old Mahabalipuram Road) will have around 400 dedicated associates of Satyam working for Nissan, and scalable to 750 within three years, according to Mr Subu D. Subramanian, Director and Senior Vice-President, Satyam.

In February, the Hyderabad-based IT company signed a five-year deal to manage Nissan North America's mission critical business applications, including financial, general ledger, schedule planning and supply chain. In less than six months, Satyam became the sole IT service provider for Nissan North America's entire portfolio, which includes 321 applications in five locations across US and Canada, he told newspersons.

ahead of schedule

By completing the transition of Nissan North America's entire application suite ahead of schedule (six months) Satyam has demonstrated its ability to win and execute large engagements in automotive and manufacturing sectors, Mr Subramanian said, without disclosing financial details of the deal.

Satyam, which provides global consulting and information technology services, also plans to provide engineering services to Nissan Europe and Japan. In addition, it would manage Nissan's customer relationship management (Siebel) applications, he said.

Mr Robert Greenberg, Vice-President and Chief Information Officer, Information Systems, Nissan North America, said the transition of Nissan's application from the existing vendor to Satyam did not affect Nissan's business. "This is a big credit to Satyam, which understood well our requirement."

Nissan has different geographies, including Japan, Global Overseas Market, North America, Europe and Asia.
