Lodha files defamation suit against B.K. Birla

Our Legal Correspondent

Kolkata , Nov 2

Mr R.S. Lodha on Wednesday filed a Rs 100-crore defamation suit against Mr B.K. Birla, Mr Navin Suchanti, the Pressman Ltd and Mr Sarbadaman Roy of the Centre for Social Equity in the Calcutta High Court.

Mr Justice Aniruddha Bose directed the parties to file affidavits and fixed the case for hearing in the last week of November.

Background

In the suit, Mr Lodha sought an order directing the defendants to disclose the background of a full-page advertisement published in the Financial Express.

In the petition, it was stated that upon enquiry it was learnt that the advertisement was published by Mr Sarbadaman Roy through Mr Navin Suchanti and Pressman at the instance of Mr Birla, which caused lowering of Mr Lodha's image in the eyes of the public.
