Kochi , Oct. 30

Malaysia Tourism and SriLankan Airlines have jointly announced a "value-for-money" package for tourists from India. The offer involves a four-day three-night package for a visit to Malaysia, priced at Rs 17,333 for one, inclusive of all taxes.

The package, which was announced on Monday , will be valid till December 20, and is specifically targeted at the outbound tourist traffic from Kerala. Three nights accommodation in Kuala Lumpur in a four-star hotel with daily breakfast, airport transfers, return economy-class ticket from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi or Kozhikode is part of the package, in addition to half-day sightseeing tours. The package is launched in association with four leading travel agents from Kerala, a press release issued here said.

Commenting on the launch of the package, Mr Noor Arif Mohd, Director of Tourism Malaysia, said: "This package is ideally timed before the festive season with no hidden cost of taxes. The South Indian market has been growing rapidly registering over 18 per cent increase in arrivals compared to the previous year. This package is in line with our strategy to introduce State- specific regional promotional activities, thereby increasing our distribution reach to the consumers. Sri Lankan Airlines, with its effective connectivity from Kerala, therefore becomes the right option for us to join hands with."

The Indian arrivals to Malaysia have been another positive factor that has spurred the introduction of this offer. Between January to July 2006, over 1,60,500 Indian tourists visited Malaysia, which is a growth of 18 per cent over last year. Last year, 2,25,789 Indian tourists visited Malaysia, making the country the ninth largest contributor to tourist arrivals.
