Bangalore , Oct. 30 Only one in four engineers are employable, according to a skills assessment test conducted by MeritTrac in the State.
Communication skills
Communication skills of engineering graduates in Karnataka are below industry expectations, reveals the report released on Monday at a HR conference held on the occasion of BangaloreIT.in 2006 in the city. While the graduates show strong attention to detail and analytical ability, Tier 2 clusters such as Belgaum and Mysore showed promising scores in the analytical ability section. MeritTrac tested a total of 8,456 candidates in the State, covering around 95 engineering colleges. Talent pools are dispersed across the State and with adequate employability enhancement initiatives, these pools should be able to match up to Bangalore in time.
Talent pool
Karnataka has an intake of 45,000 engineering graduates - the third largest talent pool for engineers across the country in quantity. There are 122 engineering institutions offering BE and B.Tech. Karnataka showed an overall qualifying percentage of 30.6 per cent of the total talent pool. At an estimated 90,000 candidates available in final and pre-final year, this translates to a total employable pool of 27,450 candidates. Bangalore has 60 per cent more candidates meeting minimum qualifying criteria compared to Tier 2 counterparts. Rest of Karnataka displayed an overall pass-through of 23.48 per cent.
