Kolkata , Oct. 30

Birla Corporation Ltd has posted 35 per cent growth in turnover at Rs 417.06 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal over Rs 309.58 crore in the same period of previous year.

The profit after tax at Rs 67.54 crore (Rs 18.16 crore) showed 272 per cent jump. The operating profit amounted to Rs 103.16 crore (Rs 31.58 crore) and profit before tax to Rs 90.45 crore (Rs 21.24 crore). The EPS for the quarter increased to Rs 8.77 (Rs 2.38) during the period under review.

The company sources attributed the improvement to the increase in the volume of blended cement, better utilisation and good market condition, particularly for the cement division. Steps were being taken to expand the cement capacity by 1.25 million tonnes at the company's plants at Satna (MP) and Chanderia (Rajasthan) by de-bottlenecking.
