Bangalore , Oct. 29 The Sri Lankan Minister for Science and Technology, Mr Tissa Vitharana , was welcomed to BangaloreIT.in 2006 by Karnataka's IT Secretary, Mr M. N. Vidyashankar, and the STPI Director, Mr B.V. Naidu. Arriving on the second day of the IT event, he said he hoped his country would emulate India's success in IT. "There is an abundance of talent and skilled personnel in Sri Lanka and we are suffering from brain drain. We hope IT outsourcing can help change this trend. We would like to get companies to use Sri Lanka's talent and contribute to its economic development." "Being a smaller economy, we are more flexible and can be an attractive site for investments," he said. The country will offer incentives to Indian firms wishing to set up centres in Sri Lanka in the form of holidays, concessions, land, electricity etc. "We hope to attract investment in IT and ICT. ICT is one of the key areas of focus for us. We are also entering biotechnology and nanotechnology fields," he said.
