Kolkata , Oct. 26

Wise words have it that "a newspaper is the history for one day of the world in which we live, and with which we are consequently more concerned than with those which have passed away, and exist only in remembrance". But in the modern era, when a daily newspaper, even if it were a financial daily, gives birth to yet another edition, it is time to record the launch in a capsule of time. And more befitting when done in front of the business glitterati.

The launch of the 14th edition of The Hindu Business Line in Kolkata on Thursday evening by the Bengal Chief Minister to a thunderous applause injected an air of special expectancy among the members of the audience, comprising mostly the captains of industry, trade and services.

The mood was evident when Mr Rajiv Kaul, Chairman of the Nicco Group of companies, entered a bit late, during the audio-visual presentation on Business Line's 12-year journey, he quickly grabbed the first seat at the edge of the 15th row, not wanting to miss out anything.

When the Editor-in-Chief of Business Line recalled how, 12 years ago, the newspaper took the stage at a time when IPOs were raking in the moolah, and business journalism was perhaps more concerned with money, and how the paper has, in all these years, remained steadfast in its truth-telling path, the audience simply lapped it up.

The mood at the end of the launch ceremony was truly eclectic, and virtually every single CEO this correspondent spoke to had a word of praise, a little advice and, of course, good wishes for a great journey ahead.
