The Hindu Business Line : Aerospace engineers' convention

The Kerala State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) is hosting a two-day National Convention of Aerospace Engineers here from Sunday.

Air Marshal Mr P. S. Ahluwalia, Air Officer Commanding-In-Chief, Southern Air Command, will inaugurate the programme at the Institution of Engineers Hall here on Sunday.

The theme of the convention will be `Indian Aerospace - Present scenario and future trends,' said Dr B. B. Das and Mr S. R. Vijayamohanakumar, Chairman and Secretary, respectively, of the organising committee.

At least $1,000 billion have been spent the world over so far on various space programmes and $30 billion is being spent currently on an yearly basis. Despite its modest share, India has demonstrated imaginative and selective applications of space technology for accelerated national development.

Advanced missions

Alongside, there has been considerable growth in the area of research and development in the education sector, heavy engineering industry and ancillary industries. Over the next few years, the country is embarking on various advanced missions and also on development of various new technologies.

The last four decades have seen the country achieving tremendous growth and progress in the field of aerospace engineering, especially in launch vehicles and remote sensing and communication satellites.
